The Immersed! Team and All of our Friends

Immersed 2021 is shaping up to be an incredible event, with SIX themed virtual ‘stages’, THREE entire nights of streamed content, and around FIFTY amazing performances and interviews from our legendary line-up. It cannot be put into words how excited the Immersed team are to show this event to the world, and there’s only a FEW DAYS to go, so soon you’ll be able to see what all the fuss is about.

This event will no doubt be a spectacle, and this is in part due to our acts and supporters but would’ve been impossible without the TEAM who have been working around the clock for months to GENERATE, FILM, EDIT, CAPTURE and PRESENT each and every piece of content.

We’d like to take a minute to thank each course – equating to OVER 200 STUDENTS – who have so kindly given up their time and talents to engage with Immersed! 2021. Immersed! is LED and RUN by the STUDENTS on the third year of the Popular and Commercial course, but this blog post is a thank you from us to everyone else.

BSc (Hons) Sound and Live Event Production

Immersed! would have been non-existent without the help from Sound and Live Event Production. Their professional practice and experience has been paramount to the success of our festival, and we are eternally thankful for all of their involvement, and so happy that we’ve created a relationship with a course as talented as theirs. Immersed! management would like to specially thank Ian Williams, Phillip Hughes, Andrew Gwilliam and Stuart Jones for being approachable, helpful, and genuinely inspiring when it came to the production of this event. We’re grateful to you and every single one of your students – Immersed! is as much yours as it is ours.

BA (Hons) Media Production

Media Production has also played a huge part in this year’s event as they created content for our social medias as well as editing the majority of our performances. Their hard work is unparalleled, and we’d like to give a special thank you to team leaders Isobel Reid, Kez Thomas, Abi Rumble and Harriet Dooner for all of their amazing help. We’d also love to show our appreciation for lecturer Paul Appleby, whose cooperation and expertise has been one of the most useful assets in the creation of Immersed! 2021.

MSc Music Engineering and Production and BSc (Hons) Creative Industries (Popular Music Technology)

Another big thank you goes out to the Music Engineering and Production, and Creative Industries course members, who helped make Immersed! special in these trying times by mixing some of the audio we recorded whilst creating Immersed. Working alongside Popular and Commercial Music student Oliver Fecci-Chiffi, the students on these courses who’ve donated their time have helped to create a truly professional sounding event by offering their skills.

BA (Hons) Illustration

Illustration students helped us greatly in our goal to raise money for the #saveourvenues movement. Several course members designed t-shirts highlighting the plight the pandemic has had on events such as Immersed, and all proceeds from sales go to the #saveourvenues cause. We thank everyone who submitted a design but would like to give a special shout out to Ozzy Corbett who designed the winning t-shirt and has thus had a huge impact on helping the music industry in Wales.

BA (Hons) Journalism

Journalism students have been at the forefront of the promotion of this festival. We owe many of our press coverage to them and thank Niamh Colclough and Sally Burris specifically for their help with the presentation of the event alongside Pop student Zsofi and Keep Cardiff Live. We’d also like to thank Lottie Catrin for writing a piece on us in Buzz magazine, and Beccy Leach for helping us secure placements and interviews with the BBC. This has been imperative in helping Immersed! reach more screens when it airs, and we’re so grateful for everyone’s help.

BA (Hons) Photojournalism

The photojournalism students played a massive part of our Tramshed days – capturing the amazing experience in gorgeous photos we see around our socials. We owe the pictures taken in the Atrium to Stu Rowles, an extremely talented photographer. Our Tramshed-based pictures are also beautiful, and were taken by Liv Davies and Natalie Ball, who both undeniably have bright futures in photojournalism.

BA (Hons) Visual Effects and Motion Graphics

Last but not least we’d like to thank the VFX course for creating some of the incredible graphics you’re about to see when the festival commences this weekend. Specifically though, credit is due to Rob Hannagan-Jones for his brilliant title sequence that will open every night.

We look forward to sharing all this incredible work created by students from these courses with you, our amazing viewers. We hope you appreciate the work that has gone into this festival as much as we do. We Popular and Commercial Music students have created some brilliant relationships with the people we’ve worked alongside on this event, and more grateful than you could ever know.

Immersed commences Friday at 8pm – come and see for yourself the talent that comes out of The University of South Wales.
